Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Assistant Manager to join one of the largest garden centres throughout the UK. Based in Bradmore, Nottinghamshire, the successful Assistant Manager will earn a salary of £18,000 per annum including a range of excellent benefits.

As an Assistant Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the garden centre, driving the site forward using the resources available within the business. This role encompasses all aspects of leadership, staffing, advanced training and personal development. Reporting to the Store Manager & Area Manager, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Communicating regularly with the Retail Operations Director and other relevant members of the Operations Office
  • Assisting with Health & Safety, security of stock, employees, customers and visitors to the store
  • Completing staff shift rotas and allocation of annual leave
  • Following the correct procedures for dealing with problem customers or the apprehension of shoplifters
  • Carrying out all aspects of stock management including deliveries, stock recalls/inventories and stocktaking
  • Using the Company SAP stock system
  • Performing all aspects of cash handling including reconciliation of tills and completion of relevant paperwork
  • Performing advanced merchandising of stock and promotions & producing point of purchase advertising
  • Using your extensive knowledge of merchandising to drive the horticultural and seasonal division of the business forward
  • Maintaining the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction
  • Maximising sales, reaching annual budget targets, completing time sheets and process wages figures
  • Carrying out staff disciplinary procedures
The successful Assistant Manager will have demonstrable experience within a similar role and will be able to make informed decisions. In addition, you will possess the following skills and experience:
  • Previous retail/customer service experience
  • Excellent organisational & communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Professional approach and attitude within the workplace
  • Flexible in attitude and approach to working days and times to suit the needs of the business
  • A high level of self-motivation and leadership skills
  • Full Driving Licence (Desirable)
  • RHS - Certificate in Plant Health, NCH - Certificate in Horticulture and NCH - In Retail (Desirable)
  • Experience of SAP Operating System (Desirable)
  • First aid certificate/health and safety qualifications (Desirable)
