As a Senior Legal Advisor within Global Business Planning and Operations you will focus on providing practical, timely, quality legal services to help the Company meet its business objectives through deep understanding and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Global Business Planning and Operations team is responsible for the efficient execution of business processes for the technical functions (Research and Biopharmaceutical Development) and Operations groups. The role will support additional groups within AstraZeneca including Global Medicines Development, Innovative Medicines, Global Product and Portfolio Strategy and Global Medical Affairs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Legal Advisor you will be responsible for drafting and negotiating various complex contract types (e.g., Material Transfer agreements, Studentships, Post-doc Research Agreements, Research Collaborations and others) using approved templates in accordance with pre-defined target cycle times. You will develop and maintain corporate templates for a variety of complicated agreement types specific to the needs of the biotechnology arena. You will review contract drafts provided by operations team members and external parties for consistency with MedImmune terms and conditions. You will be providing immediate answers and legal guidance on complex contracting issues and advise the company and senior management on a broad range of federal and state regulatory and compliance matters. You will work with internal and/or external business teams on issues and developments related to assigned contracts and manage client and third party expectations and deliver results within reasonably established timelines. You will identify training needs within the organization and develop/present training materials on relevant laws and legal/business issues. Identifying opportunities to improve the contracting process to increase efficiency or to better manage risk will be important part of the role.
- Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies Alternatively, candidates with a degree in a scientific field will be considered.
- Experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or academic R&D organization is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of the contract process including contract evaluation, negotiation, approval, tracking and close-out.
- Strong experience in contract drafting and negotiation; experience negotiating a range of biotechnology-specific agreements including research collaborations, licence agreements, material transfer agreements service agreements.
- Excellent knowledge of IP issues is essential.
- UK qualified solicitor is preferred but not essential.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new software systems and procedures.
