The Role In A Nutshell This role is a ‘game changer’ within our product team. Your purpose is to lead and inspire our cross-product design team to dramatically improve our product and feature set through customer-focused design. About You You’re a visionary who can show a passion for an end-to-end product experience that revolves around our Gen Z audience. You’re inspired by the rich landscape of youth culture, and are able to translate that into contemporary, digital experiences and more. You’re creative and strategic. You’ll make our app and responsive platform best in class, and you’ll take us beyond them. You’ll have design experience, but have evolved a strong strategic mind that can think and plan holistically. You’ll focus on team and product development, but won’t be able to stop yourself rolling your sleeves up to craft UI when you get a chance. You will lead the development and maintenance of the user experience strategy and will have a hands-on approach to deliverables that span the full user-centred design lifecycle. You will thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. You will excel at delivering highly analytical, creative ideas and helping our team of UX and UI designers to do the same. You love language, and see the importance of it to the experience, our brand and how we connect with our members. You understand how regional differences can impact product design and effectiveness and deal with them before they become a problem. You’re unafraid to challenge our Senior Management Team when it’s right for our members. You understand that great product experience involves people from across the business and you can bring them along with you on the journey. Day To Day Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of UX and UI designers in improving our product and feature set. Create and communicate a clear vision with expectations of each team member. Architect the future of UX at UNiDAYS through user centred design and collaboration with the design and product community. Be an advocate of modern UX principles and best practices, be a voice for these across the business. Ensure UX processes are being correctly applied and understood by teams. Work closely with product managers, analysts, developers, testers and marketing teams to develop market-leading products and features Lead project inceptions and workshops. Support the design community in requirements gathering, storyboarding, rapid ideation, information architecture, prototyping, and wireframing. Help define reusable interaction patterns and contribute to site frameworks and the development of a living style guide. Ensure functional and aesthetic consistency across all products. Lead key strategic projects to drive success and demonstrate a user centred design approach, with appropriate techniques. Help develop new capabilities and approaches in research and testing (qualitative and quantitative). What We Need From You Commercial experience as a previous Head of Product Design / Head of UX or Lead UX practitioner in a consumer facing environment. Proven team leader and design advocate from a commercial/product based background. A portfolio website of relevant work (design for mobile platforms and apps is a must). Strong conceptual and analytical skills and experience implementing innovative user experience solutions. Hands on experience working on high traffic, consumer facing products Comfortable and confident in an agile/lean environment. Experience with a variety of research techniques including user interviews, stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, user journey mapping, usability testing, traffic/funnel analysis, multivariate testing. Excellent stakeholder management, with a collaborative work style, strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in small group settings. Proven experience of translating business strategy to UX objectives. Able to prioritise delivery of the things that will have the most business impact; building new users, engagement, retention and growth. Able to measure impact and share results with the organisation from analytics using qualitative and quantitative research. Use of Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Appsee and other analytical tools Able to champion Double Diamond approach. Strong understanding of, and appreciation of Agile principles, Scrum, Lean and cross functional squad teams. Mastery of typography, colour theory, grid systems and a sophisticated understanding and flair for user interface approaches across a range of digital platforms. Curiosity about a wide range of design-related subjects, always ready to learn new things about visual, interaction, and motion design.
