Indirect Responsibilities: 2x Internal Admin/ Support Team Members

Job Purpose:

The Head of Supply (HoS) will drive supplier participation & performance and therefore competitive advantage for the business. Given the size and growth expectations for BoilerJuice, this person must have "start-up" DNA and take a hands-on approach to scaling the supplier base in strategically important geographies as well as having a mature approach to supplier management for the large body of existing partners. The HoS will be responsible for creating and driving the brand's growth vision as it relates to suppliers. This position oversees office based and field based activity to drive supplier participation across the UK & Ireland.

In short, the purpose of your role is to develop and execute the plan for supplier partner acquisition and retention and manage the performance of all suppliers to the mutual benefit of Boilerjuice's customers and the supplier. In the simplest form this means you will:
  • Implement regional and national supply strategies to drive Boilerjuice growth
  • Maxmise engagement (measured by how actively and competitively suppliers are pricing on the platform) from supply partners to drive competition and service choice for customers
  • Ensure suppliers deliver to promise and take action when they don't
  • Lead the supply team
  • Own supply as a member of the senior management team

  • Work with CEO to progress existing supply strategies and identify new opportunities
  • Champion supply with management colleagues to unlock regional opportunities (e.g. recruiting a new supplier to allow local marketing activity to drive growth)
  • Review the market to identify future growth opportunities for BoilerJuice

Supplier management and engagement
  • Implement supply strategies to drive growth that reflect local market dynamics and which bond Boilerjuice more closely to its supply partners (e.g. systems integration)
  • Recruit, manage and retain a range of suppliers to maximise competition in target postcode areas (based on heating oil user density)
  • Support Head of Operations in resolving supplier related issues to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Work with the Finance team further to develop metrics for measurement of level of supplier engagement

Prices and Service options
  • Take the lead in negotiating better prices with key suppliers to support the workings of the BoilerJuice marketplace
  • Monitor competitivity and availability of service options (express vs longer delivery window) and take action to improve when necessary

  • Lead and develop the supply team who are motivated and competent but whose skills could be utilised more effectively
  • Play an active part in the running of the business as part of the senior management team

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of managing supplier relationships including pricing
  • Road warrior
  • Comfortable dealing with a wide range of people from truck operators and founding entrepreneurs to larger corporate types
  • Numerate and analytically minded
  • A good team player and excellent communicator including significant experience of influencing at executive level
  • Have an excellent understanding and experience of negotiating tactics to create win-win outcomes for customers and suppliers
  • Have a positive, can do attitude
  • Be self-sufficient and able to work without supervision
  • Must be able to take the initiative and get things done
  • Be willing to be challenged and to challenge colleagues, including the CEO, on how to get things done

  • Working for an online aggregator or a purchasing group
  • Knowledge of B2C marketplaces either oil (heating oil in particular) or one with similar dynamics

The successful candidate must have a demonstrable track record of measurable success within a B2C environment. In truth your experience may be on "either side of the table" - either Procurement/ Supplier Management or Strategic Business Development/ Sales.
Initiative and demonstrated problem solving ability is needed to achieve the key performance objectives. Your communication style is outgoing, poised and persuasive and you have a demonstrable ability to build rapport and relationships quickly. You work effectively in a fast-paced environment, learning quickly and thoroughly while adapting to changing conditions. You must be self-assured & confident in order to be comfortable with being accountable for results. Your leadership style is goal-oriented, yet motivating, and with the ability to train and engage others in an enthusiastic way.
